December 7 – 9, 2007 in Kissimmee , Florida

*SECOND PLACE IN REC DIVISION*

Off to Kissimmee the Breakers will travel for this weekend’s tournament.  The pool of 6 teams instead of 4 this time.  Two new teams will step to the challenge.

The 1st game for the Breakers would be a late one, starting at 11:10 pm.  Some of the players napped before the game others were as restless as small children on Christmas Eve.  The Lucky Pucks and the Breakers prepare to take the ice.  The Lucky Pucks would come to the Breakers locker room in hopes of borrowing one of our goalies.  But this would be the weekend that Natalie would have to stay home. Its work for her says her commander.  The Lucky Pucks would have to put a sixth player in the net, but they are hopeful that their goalie could show up yet. At the end of the first period the score is zero to zero. Could it be that the missing goalie is like psychological warfare?  The Lucky Pucks would strike first in the second period.  One minute later defenseman Maureen Fredericks #20 would score an unassisted goal to answer back.  The Lucky Pucks come again and move ahead.  But the Breakers would answer back by Cindy Meeker #7 taking full stride from the defensive line to move ahead by one.  At the end of the period the score is tied.  The third period starts and the clock is ticking down.  But wait Lindsay Drake #6 will see her break.  She skates in and takes the shot, she shots she scores and the Breakers move ahead.  We need one more to seal the lead, so Cindy Meeker #7 again will make a move and score once more.  The game ends 2 to 4.

2nd game – would be a midday game allowing the Breakers to sleep in from a late night.  The Breakers and the Predators (a team unknown) would end the first period with no score.  The second period begins and the Breakers strike first – Carrie Bond #82 would score on a pass from #70 Amy Pierce.  The Predators answer back and the score is tied.  The Predators are on the move and Amy gets called for a 2 minute tripping penalty and will be put in the box.  The Breakers kill the penalty and the Predators fail to score.  After the penalty ends the Predators will come back and shoot and score.  The third period begins and short on time but Carrie Bond #82 sets up the pass and Shauna Kruger #2 would give it blast. The score is now tied and final horn sounds.  The game ends in a tie with the team that was unknown.  Coach says it’s early to bed; you need your rest for the 6 am test.

Game 3 – has the Breakers in route to the rink it’s still dark outside and no breakfast is served yet.  The match up this time will be against the Ms Conduct.  We had played them last month and done quite well.  But are they looking to take back their pride.  The puck is dropped and the game is on.  It’s not very long until Janka Murdzova #27 will squeal to let everyone know that the puck has gone in.  The second period has started and it’s back and forth, then Amy Pierce #70 will send the pass right on the stick of Stephanie Jordan #99.  Will she live up to the legend of the number she wears? But the Ms Conduct goalie will be no match for our #99.  The Breakers have locked in a 2 to 0 score at the end of the second period.  The third period would be a challenge as the penalties come.  Janka serves one first for interference.  Before the first penalty ends Cindy Meeker #7 will be called for tripping and joins Janka in the box.

But Little Mo is smiling you see she “loves her some 5 on 3”.  The penalties end one at a time no goals will be allowed by the Breakers this time.  The clock runs down and the chance has arrived, Cindy Elwell #15 will shoot just in time and she scores while sitting on the ice this time.  The horn blasts and the game is at its end.  The Breakers will take the win.  Dolores Turner #33 goalie will chalk up a shut out from the team once again.  It’s time for a nap or breakfast for us; we have landed in first place but the battle will come in just a few hours, will the medals of gold be ours?  The phone calls begin we need our big gun – where is Nancy we need her to come.  She was out of town for family affairs – but made it home all safe and sound will she make another trip and come on down?

Game 4 – Championship game for first place will be against the Lady Everblades that we did not face.  The puck is dropped and it’s one, two, three goals for the opponents.  Where did they come from and when will they stop?  The score is now 3 to zip hey, we’re at the top.  We can’t let it end like this after Nancy made the trip!  The Breakers would not let the period end without fighting back, its Nancy Postma #4 on a pass from Cindy Meeker #7 that changes the score.  And less than 10 seconds later Lindsay Drake #6 on the pass from Nancy Postma #4 and Suzanne Marks #8 to put us back in the game.  The second period will end with neither team scoring; let’s see if the Breakers can get the momentum rolling.  The third period begins and the attacking starts the clock is running and time runs out.  It’s not first place the Breakers will hold they will take home the Silver this time and not the Gold.

The weekend ends and the sites are set.  We will be back in January; you haven’t heard the last of us yet!
